* Santa Barbara kennel staff receive high marks for their efforts on behalf of the dogs.
* Santa Barbara shelter volunteers have the best adoption rates, work the most hours, and contribute to the lowest kill % of all the shelters.
*CARE4Paws could be responsible for the steep drop in the number of dogs arriving at the shelters due to the spay/neuter programs. If so, they have our everlasting thanks!
*ASAP (cats) and BUNS (bunnies) operate independently of the County and do a fantastic job as non-profit groups at the Santa Barbara shelter.
*Science Diet provides free basic food for the dogs and cats.
*Rescues such as DAWG and Shadow's Fund take many dogs the County deems unadoptable from the shelter and find them forever homes.
*The foster families for the shelters do a fantastic job of teaching dogs home skills, and socializing and publicizing them. One volunteer has gotten 20 foster dogs adopted over the last 8 years!
*K-9PALS takes senior and medical dogs and makes them Sanctuary Dogs. They've given many dogs loving homes for the ends of their lives.
*Individual Shelter Supervisors and Animal Control Officers are also known to go above and beyond to try and help their dogs.
* Dr. Verona Douglas, the past SB shelter veterinarian, was tireless in her efforts to help sick dogs and make sure Protective Custody dogs were treated humanely.
